Celebrating 100 Years: Victoria Cougars' 100th Anniversary Festival!
March 29–30, 2025
Oak Bay, British Columbia, came alive this spring as the city celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Victoria Cougars’ historic 1925 Stanley Cup victory. The milestone marked one of the proudest moments in Victoria’s sporting history and brought together residents, hockey fans, and local organizations for a weekend filled with nostalgia, music, and community spirit.
A Historic Triumph Remembered
In 1925, the Victoria Cougars made hockey history by defeating the Montreal Canadiens to capture the Stanley Cup - becoming the last non-NHL team to ever win the championship. Their victory cemented Victoria’s place in Canadian sports culture and remains a lasting symbol of the city’s passion and perseverance on the ice.
To this day, that triumph stands as the only time a team from British Columbia has won the Stanley Cup, and the Cougars’ legacy continues to echo through the generations.
The Century Celebration
The Century Celebration, organized by the Victoria Hockey Legacy Society (VHLS), transformed part of Oak Bay into a hub of hockey heritage and community pride.
Stanley Cup Appearance
The highlight of the weekend was the arrival of the Stanley Cup itself! A memorable opportunity for locals to see the iconic trophy up close. Fans lined up for photos, shared memories, and reflected on how the 1925 victory helped shape Victoria’s sporting identity.
Hockey Clinics and Community Events
From youth ball hockey tournaments to public skating sessions and interactive exhibits, the event invited people of all ages to engage with the sport. Families, players, and newcomers alike celebrated the city’s deep hockey roots through hands-on activities and local storytelling.

Adding to the festival atmosphere, live performances from local deejays and from The Zone/The Q, and other entertainers filled the weekend with energy and excitement. It was not just a commemoration of history - it was a celebration of the community that continues to carry that spirit forward.
